Guidance for Move Day
Moving day can be exciting but also comes with its challenges. At Bolliger, we want to ensure your experience is as smooth and stress-free as possible. To help you prepare, we’ve compiled this list of essential tips and guidelines for move day. From packing delicate electronics to coordinating multiple destinations, these points are designed to address common scenarios and clarify your responsibilities during the process.
Our packers are experienced professionals committed to providing the highest level of service, and we ask that you treat them with the respect they deserve. If you have any specific needs or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your assigned operations manager before the move. Remember, clear communication and proper preparation are key to a successful relocation.
We hope you find this guide helpful, and if there’s anything we’ve missed, let us know. Our team is always happy to assist!

1. Ensure You Know What Needs to be Shipped
It is important to have a clear understanding of what needs to be packed and taken during the removal. While our team will do a final walk-through with you at the end of the collection, it is the client’s responsibility to ensure that everything you want moved is packed and removed from the residence. If an item is left unpacked and later discovered, a request to collect it after the team has left will be considered a second collection, which may incur additional costs.

2. Absence During Collection
If you are unable to be present at the collection address(es) for your move, such as when we are collecting goods from a self-storage unit or another location, please ensure that the individuals on-site are informed of our arrival. Kindly note that it is your responsibility to coordinate with those on-site. While we will communicate all relevant details directly to you, it is up to you to relay the necessary information to the on-site personnel. We cannot assume responsibility for liaising with third parties in your absence.

3. Responsibilities for Multiple Destinations
If your move includes multiple destinations, such as a city home and a beach house, it is your responsibility to clearly indicate what goes where. The best way to do this is by labeling items with post-it notes. While our men are very good, Bolliger does not take responsibility for items that end up at the wrong destination. We recommend grouping items according to their destination prior to our team’s arrival to avoid any confusion. Instructions like “this half of the shelf goes to Milan, and this other half goes to Rome” are not acceptable.

4. Keep Important Documents Safe
Please ensure that all important documents (such as passports, visas, car documents, contracts, etc.) are set aside in a secure location where they will not be packed by our team. It's easy to leave a passport in a jacket pocket, and if you ask our men to "pack that jacket," they will pack it without checking the contents. To avoid any issues, please double-check that all essential items are safely stored.

5. Additional Volumes May Incur Costs
As you will have seen, we do our best to accurately estimate the volume of your shipment during the quoting process. However, if additional items are added after the estimate, please be mindful that this may result in additional costs. Ensure that any changes to the volume are communicated to us as early as possible.

6. Prohibited Items
We cannot transport any items marked as flammable or corrosive, such as aerosols with a flame icon or corrosive icon. Additionally, we cannot take any type of gas tanks or air tanks (bombole). Please do not insist on including these items. We also cannot dispose of gas tanks, paints, turpentine, aerosols, or other hazardous materials.

7. Food and Plants
We are unable to transport any foodstuffs or live plants. This is not due to customs regulations, but rather because we do not have the certifications required to transport such items. Please make alternative arrangements for these.

8. Liquids and Potential Risks
Please be cautious when deciding to transport liquids. The moving process can involve tipping and exposure to high temperatures, especially in summer. Containers of liquids may spill or even explode, and we are not responsible for any resulting damage. Additionally, insurance will not cover damage caused by spilled liquids (such as detergents or paints). Carefully consider whether it is worth the risk to include these items in your shipment.

9. Handling Delicate Electronics
Our bubble wrap does carry some static, though minimal. Please note that standard household electronics—such as TVs, computers, laptops, DJ consoles, HiFi equipment, lamps, kitchen electronics, and nearly all other electronic items (99.99%)—will not be affected by this. These items are packed with full protection and will suffer absolutely no damage from our packing materials.
This warning only applies to very specialized, highly sensitive equipment, such as 3D printers or certain hobbyist electronics. If you own such delicate items, we kindly ask that you ensure they are pre-packaged in anti-static bags ahead of the move to prevent any potential issues.

10. Treat Our Packers with Respect
We take great pride in our packers; they are fully employed, well-trained professionals whom we have known for a long time. Please be respectful of their work and professionalism. While they are doing a manual job, they deserve the same respect as anyone else. Remember, although they are being paid, they are still your guests, and we ask that you treat them as such.

11. Requesting Additional Tasks
Please do not ask our men to move items that are not directly connected to the removal. While they will always endeavor to be helpful, their time has been precisely calculated for the job at hand. Any additional requests, such as moving a wardrobe from one room to another, are not part of their mandate. If you wish to offer a cash tip in exchange for a small favor, that is your choice, but please be upfront about it and respect their decision if they decline. Additional requests can disrupt the overall schedule and should be avoided.

12. Tipping Etiquette
Our packers always appreciate a cash tip, no matter how small. We kindly recommend avoiding gifts such as open bottles of alcohol, as they prefer other forms of appreciation.

13. Refreshments Are Appreciated
Our men will never say no to a coffee and a biscuit, and while the company provides water, a cold bottle of water from the fridge is always greatly appreciated.

14. Disposal Services
We can assist with the disposal of furniture items during the move. However, please note that we can only dispose of larger items, such as furniture, and cannot accept boxes of smaller items or electronics. The smallest item we can take for disposal is a side table. If you are interested in disposing of a furniture item, please consult with your assigned operations manager for current pricing and arrangements.

15. Insurance Coverage
Bolliger offers a supplementary insurance policy, as do all reputable moving companies. If you choose not to take this additional policy, please note that in the unlikely event of damage or a missing item, the European CMR legislation provides for a potential reimbursement of 1 euro per kg (0.89£ at the time of writing this text). It is your choice to opt for supplementary insurance or remain with the CMR insurance mandated by law. You will be asked to complete an insurance form by our operations department in due course, so please look out for that email.
